I help parents (re)discover their love of parenting.

Welcome to Genie Albina Coaching!

As a parent, you do all the things–nurse the wounds, soothe the big feelings, make the snacks, organize the play dates, email the teachers and so much more.

Trust that if you are reading this, you are already doing a good job as a parent–probably a better job than you give yourself credit for.

To keep parenting at your best, or to help you get back on track, you deserve the space and time to recharge your own parenting batteries.

This is where coaching comes in.

What is Parenting Coaching?

Good question. Parent coaching is magical. Seriously.

But, to be more specific, parent coaching is a positive, strengths-based and co-constructive process. During the coaching process, we will work as partners to help address parenting challenges by building upon what’s already working in the family system. (There is always at least ONE thing that’s working. I promise.)

You bring your family’s challenges and strengths to the table and I’ll bring my expertise in child development, education and parenting to engage in conversations that will draw out inner resources and help us plan a path toward the future you want for your and your family.

In our sessions, I will

     Listen deeply and without judgment
Ask questions to help you consider new ideas
Provide relevant, timely information and strategies
Support you as you implement changes
Be your cheerleader through the process

During our time working together, I invite you to
Share as openly and honestly as possible
     Explore new ideas
     Keep an open mind
Focus on how to grow what’s working
     Provide feedback on the process
     Follow through

Note that what I offer is parent coaching, not parenting coaching. I will not Supernanny your family.

Here’s what I know for sure: Quick fixes don’t work because the changes rarely last. I also know that your kid is super smart and will catch on if the changes you make feel superficial or insincere.

In coaching, I will work with you, as a person who also happens to be a parent, to gain confidence, increase your energy levels and clarify your hopes and dreams for your family. Then, I will support you as you take small steps toward making that dream a reality.

Hmmm. I’m intrigued. Tell me more…

Why Parent Coaching?

Parenting is hard. It’s also fun and silly and joyful, but those times are easy to manage.

When challenges come up, it can be hard for parents to keep their center and parent at their best. In those hard moments, parenting can feel devastatingly lonely.

Are my kids the only ones who don’t listen?
Why do other people’s kids love school?
How do I get my teenager to put their phone down and talk to me?

As your coach, I can assure you that you are not alone in your parenting struggles. While parenting challenges look different for each family, feelings of exhaustion, frustration and confusion are common.

Working together, we can help your family find more energy and joy in the time that you have together. Since each family’s challenges are unique, coaching provides a space for the parent(s) and coach to connect and discuss both the difficulties and potential solutions tailored to meet your family’s needs.

As a coach, I can help by
Assessing your parenting styles and personal strengths
Highlighting your successes and celebrating your victories
Providing practical tips for navigating schools
Encouraging you to take time for yourself
     Serving up unwavering support
Being a sounding board and thought partner

Parent coaching will help you rekindle your appreciation of your child and yourself which makes for happier, healthier kids and families.

Parent coaching can support you with
     Managing screen time
     Navigating sibling rivalry
     Setting appropriate boundaries
     Using meaningful discipline
     Supporting your LGBTQIA+ child(ren)
     Establishing family routines and structures
     Prioritizing self-care as a parent
     Finding fulfillment in parenting again
     Leveling up your parenting game

Parenting can be lonely work but as your coach, I will always be in your corner to challenge you to see things in a new light and celebrate with you when the pieces fall into place.

Identity

In each of my 10 years working in schools as a classroom teacher, I had at least one student whose primary caretaker was a grandparent, aunt, uncle, cousin, sibling or community member who had stepped into the role of “parent” for that child.

I know that not everyone raising a child is a parent so I use the word with this in mind.

If you are a child’s primary caretaker, whether you identify as their parent or not, whether that child is young or an adult, I would be honored to work with you to create the positive changes you want to see for yourself and your family, however you define it.

There are so many different expressions of the word “family.” Some families have one grown-up, some have two or even more. Some families are big and blended while others are small but mighty.

Whether you are parenting on your own, with a partner, a spouse or a co-parent, I’m here to support and help through coaching.

About Genie

I’ve worked with children and their families since I was 13 years old as a swim instructor, babysitter, summer camp counselor, public school teacher and now, as a Parent Coach.

In my years working with kids, and then having two of my own, I have come to appreciate how much hard work goes into raising children, which is why I’m here to help.

I believe in you and your ability to make small yet powerful changes that add up to big (and positive) shifts in your family life.

I am a certified Parent Coach through the Parent Coaching Institute and serve families across the country and overseas.
